Grounding and centering

Find a comfortable position—either seated on the floor or in a chair with your feet flat on the ground. Close your eyes and begin to breathe deeply. Inhale slowly through your nose for a count of four, hold for a count of four, exhale through your mouth for a count of four, and exhale for a count of four.

Repeat this pattern, allowing your body to settle and your mind to quiet. Feel each breath calming you, bringing you deeper into stillness.

Shift your breathing pattern to a slow, but natural rhythm. With your eyes still closed, visualize roots extending from the base of your spine (or your feet) deep into the earth. On your exhales, imagine them burrowing through layers of soil, rock, and deeper into the core of the earth with each breath until you hit the center of the earth.

Imagine an anchor latching to the core. With each breathe in, pull up the energy of the Feel the Earth. And on your exhales, imagine pushing any stress, tension or worries down your roots to the Earth.

Repeat this for a few moments. If you wish, you can repeat an affirmation verbally or mentally such as “I am safe, I am grounded and I am secure.”

On an inhale, imagine pulling the energy and your attention to your solar plexus., to the area just below your navel. This is your core, the center of your personal power. Imagine a warm, glowing light there, like a small sun radiating energy.

With each inhale, feel this light grow brighter, expanding within your body. With each exhale, release any scattered or nervous energy back down into the Earth. If you wish you can repeat an affirmation such as “I am centered, I am focused and I am in my power.”

Take a few moments to just breathe in the energy, feeling it flow up from the Earth and back down through your roots.

After a few moments, slowly start bringing your awareness back into the present. Wiggle your toes and fingers, gently open your eyes, and take a few deep breaths before carrying on with your day.
